Seinfeld and Gates' Microsoft Ad Campaign

The top video runs for 90 seconds while the 2nd one is a 4 minute & 30 second long spot that promote Microsoft and feature Jerry Seinfeld with Bill Gates. Apparently, this was phase one of a new ad campaign that was supposed to counteract the Mac vs PC ads run by Apple. Just two weeks after their release, Microsoft has pulled the plug on these ads (I never actually saw them on TV, just on Youtube). They claim it was all planned and not due to the lackluster response to the commercials. I watched both of them and call me stupid, but I just don't get it. They're trying to be different that's for sure, but they don't come across as funny, just intentionally weird & obscure. If you have time to watch, tell me: what do you think? And do YOU get it?

Comments:
I saw the two clips on TV, and thought it was pretty funny that they used two guys who're extremely out of touch with the general public as their leads. They definitely did that well, but the point about connecting with real people or whatever didn't really come across very clearly.

But really, what else are they gonna do? They don't have any real groundbreaking products to pimp with music from Feist or the guy from Die Hard 4, so it makes a lot of sense to get a comedian who hasn't done much in the last decade to be the new face of their campaign to combat their decreasing hold on the universe...
