Name that team!

Baseball got the wind knocked out of it a little yesterday, however, back in Ottawa things are moving along to get the new season underway next May. In fact, no doubt in response to a recent SBP post, a "Name that team" contest is already underway! You have to send your suggestion(s) by December 31st. You can enter here:

www.baseballottawa.com

You get a free ticket to a game that will be announced at a later date just for entering. Sweet!

Please do not send these suggestions:

Grays, Senators, Lynx, 67's, Capitals, Loggers, Intrepid, Rebel, Sooners, Rough Riders, Roughriders, Renegades, 08's, Thunderbolts, Hitmen, Enforcers, Rage, Outlaws, Xtreme, Maniax, Demons.

The names of the other teams in the Can-Am League include Surf (really), Rox, Pride, Jackals, Capitales, Skyhawks and Tornadoes.

I also found out Ottawa's very first game will be against the visiting New Jersey Jackals on Thursday, May 22nd. And Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels will be part of the ownership group for the team. Maybe we'll get "Meet Will Ferrell" nights!

Comments:
How about the Ottawa Beavers? Their tagline could be “The Beavers; no balls allowed.”

Or with the new information on the mayor’s corruption, Tracy mentioned something along the lines of the Ottawa Corrupters. “We steal more then home base.”

Of course I won't submit these as I would never use the ticket.

But in the long run does Ottawa really need a new team? Isn’t that one of the reasons why the Lynx left, not enough support? We are a hockey town and anything else (i.e. CFL, baseball) will always fold.

I think the stadium should be torn down and in its place maybe affordable condos or apartment building would be more appropriate. It is a decent location to reduce the amount of commuters and it is near all major transit stops. Just my opinion.

Or we could just tear down your house, Forts. Just my opinion.

Got to love the anonymous comment, especially one that makes as much sense as that one and is so constructive, no wonder it is anonymous. Good job on adding to the conversation anonymous.

The stadium is completely paid for, and I really think with the right people in charge and good marketing, it can work. The Lynx at one time were setting attendance records, so there's a fan base there that needs the proper approach to be lured into going again. Whether or not it can happen is another story.

I agree with anonymous in regards to the dumb idea submitted by Forts. The best use for a baseball stadium is to put a baseball team in it, not build condos or apartment buildings on the site.
