Disturbing Details

I was really hoping it was an accident. But that wasn't the case, and it was much worse than I feared. Chris Benoit killed his wife, then his son, then himself. A star for many, a hero for some, and now he's a murderer. His reputation is forever ruined. His wife, Nancy, also known as the manager Woman while in WCW, was strangled with an electrical cord while her hands & feet were bound. His son, Daniel, was smothered with a bag. And police found him hanging in his weight room, some say waiting as long as a day to commit suicide after he killed his family members.

Already, WWE has apologized for the tribute show and no replays will air of it.

I'm not going to apologize for my words yesterday because I really meant it when I said I'll miss him, and I didn't know the circumstances of his death at the time. Everyone is saying the same thing: This isn't the Chris Benoit we all thought we knew.

Tragic, senseless, so many questions unanswered, but the most pressing, "Why Chris?", will likely never be answered.

SBP,

I think it's time to distance yourself from wrestling.

The wrestling world has no self awareness about the image it portrays and has no sense of responsibility about that same negative image.

I used to like wrestling back in the hay day when the average guy was just some fatso who could do flips but this is getting out of hand.

I would never let my kid watch this stuff.

Here, here RBP. Like he said "I think it's time to distance yourself from wrestling."

Wrestling is nothing more then a soap opera with an NC-17 rating. Women are sex objects; steroid filled muscle heads throw one another around a ring to a choreographed script with predetermined winners.

If kids want to watch violence that will inspire them to be a “true fighter” I say let them watch UFC or boxing. I would much prefer my kid to come home and tell me he was going to be a Ju Jitsu fighter as opposed to a speedo wearing moron.

The only questions I have are “this was not the Benoit people thought they knew” fans are saying this? Bc to be honest with you the only people that can honestly say that are his friends and family. Fans have no idea what a person is like just from there time on TV, or in a movie or from interviews.

And he stayed away from drugs and booze; the amount of roids he was taking was just as or more devastating then drinking for example.

To the self awareness piece.....

The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the organization under which Benoit competed, claimed in a statement Tuesday that steroids were not related to Benoit's death, and could not be.

"The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage," the company said, noting that Benoit tested negative for steroids on April 10, the last time he was tested.

RBP

Does the WWE have regular or random testing or both?

And I wasn't hinting that his death or the death of his family had anything to do with roids. Just that it is a big part of their lives.

There is only so big muscle can get before you need a great deal of help.

Benoit's death and murder obviously had something to do with depression from something or some great event in his life and I am not going to pretend or assume that I would know what as I have no idea who he is.

WWE did introduce a "wellness" policy shortly after the death of Eddie Guerrero in response to the negative reaction the company received for his death. It is somewhat of a joke, since no one other than WWE is administering the test and there are no guidelines other than the ones they impose themselves. They did mention a drug test was given to Benoit in April and he tested negative, but since WWE controls the test and keeps the results who knows the integrity of it.

You may be right about wrestlers being steroid-filled muscle heads, but there's isn't one sport that doesn't have a problem: I'll give maybe cricket the benefit of the doubt. I bet you even some of those UFC guys juice up.

Anyway, WWE has an even greater problem because unlike the NFL and MLB, people at least aren't DYING. This is proof that there isn't one body or organization that can self-regulate. It must be administered and monitored by independent third-parties. This may be the only we can help prevent tragedies like the this one. We won't know for sure if Chris Benoit was on anything until the autopsy results are released, but steroids have been linked to depression and uncontrolled rage and they very well may be the reason for this tragedy occuring.

No I agree and I am not saying that other athletes don't use steroids among other drugs; it is just unfortunate that -like RBP said- wrestling had a hay day where average big guys could do some acrobatic moves and that was what the sport was about and kids could watch it, there is no way I would let my kids watch that today. But think of the boxing associations for example payoffs, corruption, media fueled showboats ruined the sport.

Wrestling is ruined and has sold out every venue it can with drugs, violence, and sex. It is an embarrassment. Who knows as UFC gets bigger maybe it will sell out to that level as well, I mean it already has its own stupid reality show that drives me nuts.

As an aside, one co-worker while I was leaving said to me, "Bye Ben. Sorry about Chris Benoit!" Kinda funny...sort of...

Hey Ben,

I know you're probably reluctant to comment on this as it's still under investigation, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this leak: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,287194,00.html.

It seems that the implication is that someone connected to the WWE posted the pre-police report information on Benoit's Wikipedia page, so I figure you will have some interesting thoughts on the issue.

Hope The Rock is treating you well (Newfoundland, not Dwayne Johnson)...

I read the article, and it's indeed strange, especially when the IP address is traced to the home of WWE headquarters. What does this mean exactly? I don't know. It's entirely possible Benoit contacted a friend and that person posted the news of Benoit's wife's passing, but why hold back there and not also mention the son was killed, too?

Could this mean WWE was somehow trying to hide what happened but an employee tried to "do the right thing" and post it on Wikipedia? I doubt it. I think someone was simply speculating on the situation and they were scaringly correct. (apt, alluring alliteration!)
