Chris simon high Sticks Ryan Hollweg
Way to set back hockey about 50 years there, Simon. You're a piece of trash and I hope you never play another shift in the NHL.

Actually Ben, the NHL was just as bad 50 years ago if not worse. We just didn't see as much of it. Nowadays with the media coverage and 15 different camera angles we get to see everything. Long live Simon and Bertuzzi estie!
Sorry Freeze, that hit was brutal. Islander or not, you've gotta admit it should never have happened in any decade.
But I'm not saying they should outlaw hitting or anything like that, I like that part of the game, but for everyone's sake, you've got to keep it clean.

That was such a dirty little pansy hit. Hitting is part of the game and is an integral part at that. But the hits need to be clean. Fights are also a major part of the game, gives the team and fans energy, and allows for some frustration to come out. Simon should have dropped his gloves and taken him on toe to toe if he was that pissed off about the hit he received.
He was lucky that he didn’t pop out an eye or hit him in the throat. Bottom line he was a coward for hitting him with his stick and his suspension should be much longer…he decided to use his stick as a weapon when his opponent was unaware that it was coming and could not defend himself.

Did people at least care about the NHL 50 years ago?
Nowadays, the only way the league gets exposure is due to violent acts like the Simon incident.
Sad that the skill and passion of stars like Crosby and Ovechkin continues to be ignored.
I love hockey but the NHL is a mess, an absolute mess.

Good point anonymous. Sens fans also always turned a blind eye to Marty Havlat and his stick infractions as well.
I also agree. Of course I'm also so inclined since Simon is a former Flame. I can not excuse what Simon did on the ice. It was uncalled for and he deserved every single one of those 25 games. But that being said, you will NEVER convince me that this was a knee jerk reaction to a hit. I have never seen Simon act like this, and my first instinct was that someone had said something about either Simon, Asham or Nolan. My second thought was that there must have been a comment about alcohol.
Regardless, it doesn't excuse his actions.
But please don't call him a worthless piece of crap either. At least, no more than you thought he was before the hit.....because we don't know what he was thinking or why he acted and I doubt we ever will. And while actions can never be justified, I'm sure he had a reason nonetheless and I don't think it was simply a retaliation for a hit.

"Yeah, but Emery only gets two games and that's okay. Gotta love Sens fans!!!!! "
Who said it was ok? At the same time, you cannot tell me Emery's stick incident and Simon's are in the same league. They are not even close. Simon's was a two handed chop at full force to the face with intent to injure. Emery was a reserved one-handed swing to the helmet. It doesn't excuse it, but like I said, not even close.
And I am a Sens fans. So love me.

Sorry BP but I beg to differ, it only hit the helmet bc he (I don’t follow players so have not a clue) was wearing a visor, no visor and the guys face would have taken the full brunt from the heel of Emery’s stick. And I don’t really think that there was anything reserved about it.
so I would have to say that the two hits were in the same league.
