Why We Fight
I rented this documentary Sunday night and although it doesn't really tell us anything a tree-huggin' hippie doesn't know, it still is a relevant telling of what President Eisenhower warned us about when leaving his office back in 1960: The Military Industrial Complex (a term he coined) should not overtake the liberties and democratic processes the nation has worked hard to achieve.
The film talks about how Congress, The Military and The Corporate Sector work together for their own interests, and how, as one observer puts it, be nearly impossible to put an end to all war so long as it's profitable.
We live with lies all the time. Vietnam was a lie. Communism was a lie. Iraq was a lie. What about Afghanistan? Or the conflict with Lebanon and Israel?
It's hard to believe what our world leaders tell us anymore.

And don't think this single-mindedness is reserved for the U.S. only:
"on a recent trip, the Prime Minister was asked by a flight attendant to turn off his cellphone and BlackBerry. Mr. Harper declined. The pilot then made a request, saying it was for safety purposes. The PM relented.
But, at the end of the journey, one of his staffers gave the pilot some news: His services would no longer be required on prime ministerial trips.
The aviator should have known that this is the new Ottawa. In Harpertown, you fall in line or fall from favour."

The sad thing is...this is what Harper was sending to Stockwell when he was asked to turn off his equipment...

I hate to turn away from adding to the snakes on a plane vibe but I have a very specific point to make about the lies SBP highlights...
I have no doubt that the gov's and corp's are lying to us, but they never talk directly to us, the true culprit who profits from all of this heinous HS is the media. They no doubt are taking the lies and lying them up even further, delivering unto us lies squared.
